Board Care & Board Butter Instructions

Board Care
DO NOT PUT IN DISHWASHER! DO NOT SUBMERGE IN WATER! These will ruin your board, cracking the wood and/or warping the board. If you got a board without cutting board feet and you notice it slides when in use, you can put a towel or SLIGHTLY damp paper towel underneath to keep in place. Do NOT leave the wet towel underneath longer than needed to cut your items. Leaving the towel underneath could also lead to splitting.
To clean: For most uses, board can be simply wiped down with warm water and mild dish soap. Once clean, rinse the board and dry with a towel, then stand or hang to air dry. If the board feels dry, reapply board butter, mineral oil, or cutting board conditioner.
If odors persist on board (garlic/onion chopping, etc.), spread kosher salt on the board, cut a lemon in half, and scrub the board gently with the lemon cut-side down on the salt.

Board Butter Instructions
Make sure your cutting board is clean and dry before applying board butter.
Rub a generous dollop (scientific term) on to the surface of your board, spreading and rubbing into all sides of your board’s surface. You can wear gloves or just use your hands for this, as the oil/wax combo is safe for skin contact* and will moisturize your hands! Allow the butter to sit on your board for a few hours to absorb into the wood, then use a clean cloth or paper towels to wipe off any excess board butter. Your board will feel smooth, have a matte appearance, and be ready for use!
*I’ve listed the exact products I use to make my board butter below so you can check for any additional ingredients or allergies from the manufacturer’s additional information.
You’re welcome to use any cutting board conditioners/mineral oils (ex. Boos, Howard, Walrus Oil brands, etc.). Just make sure you’re getting a food-safe brand!

When to Apply Board Butter
Wood cutting boards require maintenance to maintain their appearance and usefulness. Your board could split or warp if not cared for properly.
Depending on your usage and cleaning regimen, you should apply board butter, cutting board conditioner, mineral oil, or your preferred wood-maintenance product when your board’s wood begins to look and feel dry. You’re welcome to buy more of our board butter, make your own, or buy another cutting board safe-product.
If you’re using and washing the board regularly, the frequency of board butter usage could be monthly, but it’s best to trust your gut. If you use your board sparingly, the wax could last longer. Questions? Shoot Tyler an email at tyler@wentworthwoodcraft.com.
